Mueller Refrigerant Line Fitting 7/8 AC Push Coupling

The Mueller ACP10146 is a 7/8 inch AC Push coupling for joining larger refrigerant lines without brazing.

Incomplete insertion is the most common cause of push fitting failure, and it is worth understanding why it produces such a difficult fault.

A push fitting has an internal sequence: the tube passes the sealing element, then engages the gripping ring, and finally seats at full depth. A tube pushed most of the way home may pass the seal and grip enough to hold pressure during a test. The joint then appears sound, the system is commissioned, and it works.

What has not happened is full engagement. The grip is partial, and under the combined effect of system pressure, thermal cycling, and vibration the tube can gradually work outward until the joint fails, sometimes months later. The failure is then sudden and releases the charge.

The check that prevents this takes seconds. Measure the required insertion depth, mark the tube with a pencil before assembly, push the tube fully home with a straight motion and a slight twist, and confirm the mark has reached the fitting face.

On larger sizes the insertion force is high and the temptation to accept a nearly seated tube is greatest, which is precisely where the check matters most.

Confirm tube size, pressure rating, and refrigerant compatibility. Prepare the tube properly and pressure test before charging.
