Mueller Refrigerant Line Fitting 1/2 AC Push Coupling

The Mueller ACP10144 is a 1/2 inch AC Push coupling for flameless joining of refrigerant tubing.

Pressure rating and refrigerant compatibility must both be confirmed before any push fitting is installed, and they are separate questions.

Pressure rating is the more familiar. Contemporary refrigerants operate at markedly higher pressures than the systems they replaced, and R-410A in particular runs well above R-22. A fitting rated adequately for one is not necessarily rated for the other, and the failure would occur at peak pressure, which is to say on the hottest day with the condenser at its dirtiest.

Refrigerant compatibility concerns the sealing elements. Push fittings seal with an elastomeric element, and elastomers are chemically compatible with some refrigerants and lubricants and not others. A seal material that swells, hardens, or degrades in contact with a particular refrigerant or oil will fail, and the timescale may be long enough that the connection is not suspected.

The A2L refrigerants now entering service raise a further question, since fittings must be approved for use with mildly flammable refrigerants.

Manufacturer documentation states both ratings explicitly, and checking takes moments.

Confirm tube size, pressure rating, refrigerant and lubricant compatibility, and any A2L approval before use. Prepare the tube properly and pressure test the completed joint to the appropriate standard.
