Mueller Refrigerant Line Fitting 3/8 AC Push AC-Push

The Mueller ACP15726 is a 3/8 inch AC Push fitting used to connect refrigerant tubing without brazing.

Push fittings have a temperature limit, and it is considerably lower than the temperature copper tolerates. The sealing element is an elastomer, and elastomers degrade with heat.

The situation where this matters most is a mixed installation. Where part of a run is assembled with push fittings and another joint nearby is brazed, heat conducts along the copper from the torch. Copper is an excellent conductor, and a brazing operation a short distance from a push fitting can raise that fitting well beyond its rating without any visible sign at the fitting itself.

The seal is then damaged. It may hold initially and fail later, which produces a leak that is difficult to attribute because the fitting was never directly heated.

The remedies are to keep an adequate distance between brazed joints and push fittings, to apply a wet rag or heat absorbing paste between them where distance is limited, and to plan the assembly sequence so brazing is completed before nearby push fittings are installed where practical.

The same caution applies to fittings near hot discharge lines or heat sources in plant rooms.

Confirm tube size, pressure rating, refrigerant compatibility, and the fitting's temperature limits. Prepare the tube properly, verify insertion depth, and pressure test the completed work.
