Description
The Lau 60556201 is an 18 inch counterclockwise rotation, 27 degree pitch, three-wing propeller fan blade for condenser and ventilation fan applications.
Rotation on a propeller fan blade is stated as viewed from a defined reference, and it determines which way the blade must turn to move air in the intended direction. The blade is handed and cannot be reversed by flipping it on the shaft; a counterclockwise blade turning clockwise pushes air the wrong way.
The error is easy to make and moderately easy to miss. The fan runs, air moves, and the unit appears to operate. What has changed is the direction of flow through the coil, and in a condensing unit that means air is drawn in through the top grille and discharged through the coil, so the coil is fed with air that has already been heated.
The consequence is elevated condensing temperature, high head pressure, increased compressor current, and reduced capacity. Checking discharge direction by hand at the grille after any fan repair settles the question in seconds.
