The Lau 60760301 is a 14 inch four wing axial fan blade with a 33 degree pitch and clockwise rotation, used as a replacement propeller in condensing units and air cooled equipment.

Pitch is the specification most often overlooked when a blade is replaced, and it has a direct effect on motor life. A blade at 33 degrees takes a substantially larger bite of air per revolution than one at 20 degrees of the same diameter, and the motor has to supply the additional torque. Fitting a higher pitch blade than the equipment was designed for raises motor current, and if the increase pushes the motor beyond its nameplate rating, the winding runs hot and its insulation life shortens.

The effect is not always obvious at commissioning. A motor operating slightly over its rated current will run for months before failing, and the failure is usually attributed to the motor rather than to the blade fitted during an earlier service call.

Measuring motor amperage after a blade replacement and comparing it against the motor nameplate takes very little time and confirms the match is correct.
