Century A.O. Smith Condenser Fan Motor 1/12-1/3 HP

The Century A.O. Smith 6303S is a multi-horsepower condenser fan motor covering 1/12 through 1/3 horsepower, supplied as a replacement for outdoor fan motors in air conditioning and heat pump condensing units.

Condenser fan motors are built to a different standard than indoor blower motors because they live outdoors. They are totally enclosed to keep rain, dust, and insects out of the windings, they use bearings and lubricants rated for a wide ambient temperature range, and their leads and terminal arrangements are designed for a wet environment.

The multi-horsepower rating allows a single motor to substitute for several distinct OEM sizes by selecting the appropriate speed and horsepower tap at installation. For a distributor or contractor this consolidates a large section of the motor inventory into a few part numbers, which is why multi-horsepower condenser fan motors are stocked in preference to matched OEM units for most repairs.

Selecting the tap correctly matters. The motor should reproduce the original's airflow, which is what the condenser coil was designed around.
