The Yellow Jacket 19116 is a straight quick coupler for access valve service connections, providing rapid attachment and release on service ports.

Quick couplers change the economics of a service connection in two ways. The obvious one is time. Attaching and releasing a coupler is a fraction of the time taken to thread and unthread a flare nut, and across a working day involving many connections the difference accumulates.

The less obvious benefit is refrigerant retention. Breaking a threaded connection under pressure vents the contents of the hose to atmosphere. A quick coupler, particularly one incorporating a shut off, closes as it releases and retains much of that refrigerant. Over a season this represents a meaningful quantity, and it is a release that regulation increasingly restricts.

The trade off is mechanical complexity. A coupler contains a locking mechanism, an actuator that depresses the port valve, and internal seals, and each of these is a wear item. A coupler that has been dropped, contaminated with debris, or simply used for a long period may no longer seal reliably.

Inspecting couplers periodically and replacing worn seals maintains their value. A coupler that leaks removes the refrigerant saving and corrupts diagnostic readings at the same time.

Confirm port compatibility and thread size, and keep sealing faces clean.
