Yellow Jacket Access Valve 5/16 QC X 1/4 MFL Adapter

The Yellow Jacket 19173 is an adapter converting a 5/16 inch quick coupler connection to a 1/4 inch male flare fitting.

The 5/16 inch service port is the standard fitting on R-410A equipment, adopted deliberately to distinguish it from the 1/4 inch port used on R-22 and other lower pressure systems. The larger size is not arbitrary. It provides better flow for the higher mass flow rates involved, and more importantly it acts as a physical key preventing gauges, hoses, and recovery equipment rated for lower pressures from being connected to a system that operates well above them.

That distinction is a safety feature, and it means a technician working across mixed equipment carries hoses and fittings in both sizes.

An adapter of this type bridges the two standards where the connection is genuinely appropriate, most commonly to attach 1/4 inch equipment that is itself rated for R-410A pressures to a 5/16 inch port.

The rating must be confirmed rather than assumed. Connecting equipment not rated for R-410A pressures to an R-410A system through an adapter defeats the protection the different port sizes were introduced to provide, and the resulting failure occurs under pressure.

Confirm both the thread compatibility and the pressure rating of every component in the connection before use, and inspect seals regularly.
