Shurlite SHR3001X Single Flint Renewals 40 holders of 5 flints

The Shurlite SHR3001X is a set of single flint renewals, 40 holders of 5 flints, 200 flints per box.

Flints are the consumable in a spark lighter and the reason to buy them by the box is that a striker without a flint is scrap.

That sounds obvious and it is the actual failure mode. A welder's striker gets used dozens of times a day, the flint wears down, and one morning it produces sparks that will not light a torch. What happens next is the problem: somebody reaches for a lighter or a match.

Lighting an oxy-fuel torch with a match is genuinely dangerous. It puts a hand directly in the gas stream at the moment of ignition, and an oxy-fuel flame ignites explosively rather than politely. Burned hands from lit matches at torch tips are a routine shop injury, and every one of them traces back to a striker with no flint in it.

So a box of 200 flints in a drawer is not a stock item. It is what makes sure the correct tool works.

The renewal format is worth noting: 40 holders of 5 means the flint arrives in its holder, ready to fit, rather than as a loose flint someone has to seat.

Applications include oxy-fuel welding and cutting, torches, and burners.
