Flange Wizard FLW42050-TL Threaded Two Hole Pins Large

The Flange Wizard FLW42050-TL is a set of threaded two hole pins in the Large size, for flanges with holes 1/2 inch to 1-15/16 inch in diameter by 4 inch thick.

Threaded rather than magnetic is the specification that defines where these belong, and the reasoning is straightforward: a magnet needs steel. Process piping is full of flanges that are not carbon steel — stainless in food, pharmaceutical, and chemical service; aluminium; nickel alloys; bronze. A magnetic pin sits uselessly in a stainless flange hole. A threaded pin clamps into the hole mechanically and does not care what the flange is made of.

The job is flange orientation. Almost all flanged piping follows the "two-holing" convention: bolt holes straddle the vertical centreline so two holes sit level with the ground. A flange welded on out of orientation will not mate with its partner, and the correction is cutting it off and starting again. The pins provide the physical reference the fitter levels against before tacking.

The second advantage of threaded pins is grip on thick flanges. At 4 inch thickness this size handles heavy, high-pressure flanges where a magnet's holding force would be marginal against the mass involved.

At 1/2 inch to 1-15/16 inch hole diameter, this is the large-flange range.
