Flange Wizard FLW53085-M Centering Head Dial w/Vial Magnetic Large

The Flange Wizard FLW53085-M is a large magnetic centering head with a dial and vial, for 12 inch pipe and larger.

At 12 inch and larger, this is the head for big-bore work: process mains, headers, pressure vessels, and tanks. The size exists because a centering head must seat stably against a curved surface, and the geometry of a 24 or 36 inch pipe is nothing like a 2 inch one. A head sized for small pipe rocks and gives a false reading on a large diameter — which on a large pipe is a worse error, because a small angular mistake at a big radius is a large linear one at the circumference.

That relationship is worth being explicit about. One degree of error around a 2 inch pipe moves a mark a trivial distance. One degree around a 36 inch pipe moves it well over half an inch. Large-diameter work needs the tool that is built for it, not the one that happens to be in the box.

The function is identifying and marking a centre-line at any angle around the circumference — the reference every branch, nozzle, saddle, and support depends on. The magnet holds, the vial levels, the dial reads the angle.
