Gloss is the hardest and most durable finish in any range, and that is a physical fact rather than a marketing claim.

Sheen correlates directly with the film's surface. A gloss film is tightly packed resin with nothing added to break up the surface, which is why it reflects light specularly — and that same tight packing is why it is harder, less porous, and more resistant to marking than the flat and semi-gloss versions of the same paint. Flatting agents create the matte look by disrupting the surface, and a disrupted surface holds dirt and takes damage more easily.

So gloss black is the choice for anything that gets handled, wiped down, or exposed. It cleans. Dirt sits on it rather than in it.
