Purdy KRY144380320 XL Sprig 2 In. Flat Trim Paint Brush

The Purdy KRY144380320 is an XL Sprig 2 inch flat trim paint brush, supplied 6 brushes per pack.

The XL designation is the specification that decides whether this brush is right, and it is worth being explicit because the data does not say it. Purdy's XL line is synthetic filament — nylon and polyester blends — and synthetic is the correct choice for water-based paints. Latex, acrylic, and modern water-borne coatings all belong to synthetic brushes.

The reason is physical. Natural bristle absorbs water. Put a natural bristle brush in latex and the bristles swell, go limp, and lose their shape within minutes — the brush stops cutting a line and starts mopping. Synthetic filaments do not absorb water, so they keep their stiffness and their edge through a full day in latex.

The corollary is that the White Bristle brushes in this same range are for oil-based work and this one is not the same brush in a different colour.

Flat trim is the shape: a square-cut brush for flat surfaces and straight runs, where an angle sash brush is for cutting in and corners.

The 6-per-pack quantity identifies the buyer as a contractor rather than a homeowner.

Applications include latex and water-based painting, trim, and general decorating.
