Purdy KRY14T921000 Pail 4-1/2 in 1-Quart

The Purdy KRY14T921000 is a pail, 1 quart capacity, 4-1/2 inch size, case quantity 3, weight 0.85.

A cut pail is the trim painter's working container and it exists because carrying a gallon around is impractical and wasteful. A painter cutting in works from a small pail, held in the hand that is not holding the brush, moving along the wall with them. A gallon can is heavy, awkward to hold, and puts far more paint at risk than the job needs.

The risk is the underrated part. Paint in the working container gets contaminated — with dust, with grit off the brush, with skin from the surface. Everything in the pail is exposed. Working out of a quart means a quart is at risk rather than a gallon, and pouring off from the main can keeps the bulk clean.

It also means the paint in hand stays fresh. A gallon carried open all day skins and thickens; a quart is used before it can.

At 4-1/2 inches this is sized to be held, which is the point — a pail that cannot be held comfortably for an hour is a pail that gets set on a ladder shelf and knocked off.

The case quantity of 3 is contractor packaging.

Applications include cutting in, trim, touch-up, and detail painting.
