Purdy KRY145811000 9 In. 3/8 In. Woven Roller & Tray Set

The Purdy KRY145811000 is a 9 inch, 3/8 inch nap woven roller and tray set, 6 pieces.

The 3/8 inch nap is the specification that decides the outcome, and nap is the most misunderstood number in painting. Nap depth has to match surface texture: short nap for smooth surfaces, long nap for rough ones. At 3/8 inch this is a short-to-medium nap — for smooth and lightly textured walls, drywall, and previously painted surfaces.

Get it wrong in either direction and it shows. A long nap on smooth drywall leaves a stippled, orange-peel texture that no amount of rolling smooths out. A short nap on stucco or brick cannot reach into the texture, leaving holidays in every low spot.

Woven is the other specification and it separates this from knit covers. Woven covers shed almost no lint and lay a smoother film, which is what a finish wall needs. Knit covers hold more paint and cover faster, at the cost of lint and texture. For quality work on smooth surfaces, woven is correct.

At 9 inches this is the standard wall roller size.

The tray and 6-piece set makes this a complete start rather than a component.

Applications include interior walls and ceilings, drywall, and repaint work.

Users include painters, contractors, and property maintenance.
