Rust-Oleum RSOV2167838 Spray Paint V2100 High Performance 15 oz Safety Purple

The Rust-Oleum RSOV2167838 is V2100 high performance spray paint, enamel, 15 oz aerosol, safety purple, gloss, 20 minute dry time, 6 per case.

Safety purple is the rarest colour in the scheme and it exists for one reason: radiation.

Under the older safety colour standard, purple designated radiation hazards. That assignment has since been revised — the modern radiation warning uses magenta or purple on yellow — and this is worth flagging rather than glossing, because a facility marking radiation areas is working to a specific current standard rather than a general convention, and getting it wrong there is not a paperwork matter.

Verify the current requirement against the applicable standard before selling this against a radiation marking specification.

What the colour is genuinely good for regardless is any scheme that has run out of the common colours. Large facilities with complex marking systems — pipe identification, department coding, multi-stage processes — exhaust red, yellow, blue, green, and orange quickly, and purple is one of the few remaining colours that is unmistakably distinct from all of them and from the greys and browns of an industrial environment.

That distinctiveness is why it works.

Enamel is the resin, curing by oxidation over days. The 20 minute figure is dry-to-touch.

Applications include specialised hazard marking, pipe identification, and facility colour coding.
