Rust-Oleum RSOV2164838 Spray Paint V2100 High Performance 15 oz Bright Red

The Rust-Oleum RSOV2164838 is V2100 high performance spray paint, enamel, 15 oz aerosol, bright red, gloss, 20 minute dry time, 6 per case.

Bright red is not safety red, and this range carries both under separate part numbers along with a flat Red. The distinction needs to be explicit on the storefront, because three reds side by side with no explanation invites a purchase on price.

Safety red is a specified colour under the safety conventions industrial facilities work to, designating fire equipment, danger, and emergency stops. Its value is that it is exactly the same red on every extinguisher and every stop button in a building — so that a hand finds it under smoke and panic without anyone reading anything.

Bright red is a general colour. It is for equipment, machinery, and anything that needs to be red because it is red. It is a good and legitimate product and it is the wrong one for a fire cabinet.

Substituting it does not fail loudly. The cabinet gets painted, it looks red, and the facility now has two reds and an ambiguity at the moment when ambiguity is most expensive.

Gloss is worth a word: gloss films are the hardest and most washable in a range, which suits equipment that gets handled.

Enamel cures by oxidation over days. The 20 minute figure is dry-to-touch.
