Aluminium is the colour and it is a pigment with a physical function, which sets it apart from every other colour in a paint range.

Aluminium pigment is metal flake. In a properly formulated coating those flakes orient parallel to the surface as the film dries — they leaf, overlapping like roof tiles. That overlapping metal layer is a physical barrier: it lengthens the path moisture and oxygen must travel to reach the steel underneath, and a longer path means slower corrosion.

So an aluminium coating protects partly by chemistry and partly by geometry, and that is why it has been the traditional finish for tanks, structural steel, and exposed metalwork long before anyone marketed it.

The flakes also reflect radiant heat and shield the resin from UV, which is why aluminium coatings weather well.

Rust control is the product family and oil-based is the chemistry: an alkyd that cures by reacting with atmospheric oxygen, forming a hard film over days rather than minutes.

Surface preparation is what determines whether any rust-control coating works. Paint over loose scale and the coating leaves with the scale.

Applications include structural steel, tanks, railings, and exposed metalwork.
