Product Highlights
Description
The Robertshaw 41-803N is a silicon nitride hot surface ignitor for gas fired heating equipment.
A closing observation on hot surface ignition worth carrying into any furnace diagnosis: the ignitor is one element of a sequence, and the control board's diagnostic output usually identifies which element has failed.
Modern furnace controls flash a fault code, and that code distinguishes between failure to prove the pressure switch, failure to ignite, failure to sense flame, an open limit, and a rollout condition. Reading it before opening anything directs the diagnosis immediately, and reading it costs nothing.
Where an ignition fault is indicated, the sequence to observe is: does the inducer run and prove, does the ignitor glow, does the gas valve open, does the burner light, and does the flame signal establish. Each transition that fails identifies a different component, and watching one full attempt answers most of these questions directly.
Working through that sequence is faster and more reliable than replacing components in order of likelihood, and it avoids the pattern where an ignitor is fitted, then a flame sensor, then a valve, before the actual fault is found.
Handle the element by its base and protect it during installation.
Applications include residential and light commercial gas furnaces and heating appliances.
