Product Highlights
Description
The Robertshaw 41-426N is a silicon nitride hot surface ignitor for gas fired heating equipment.
Silicon nitride is the material distinction, and it addresses the principal weakness of traditional silicon carbide ignitors. Silicon carbide elements are brittle ceramic components that break readily from handling, vibration, and mechanical shock, and they degrade progressively through thermal cycling.
Silicon nitride is substantially more robust mechanically. It tolerates handling and vibration far better, which reduces breakage during installation and in service, and it withstands thermal cycling with less degradation, giving a longer working life in the same application.
Nitride ignitors also typically reach ignition temperature more quickly, which shortens the ignition sequence, and many operate at lower voltage than line voltage silicon carbide elements, which requires the control to be compatible.
That compatibility is the point to verify. A nitride ignitor is not universally a drop-in replacement for a silicon carbide one, since the control's timing and output must suit it. Where a compatible nitride option exists for an appliance, it is generally the better choice, particularly on installations where ignitor life has been poor.
Handle by the base and confirm bracket geometry positions the element correctly.
Applications include residential and light commercial gas furnaces and heating appliances.
