The Robertshaw 41-427N is a silicon nitride hot surface ignitor for gas fired heating appliances.

The economics of nitride versus silicon carbide ignitors favour nitride in most circumstances once the full cost is considered.

A nitride ignitor typically costs somewhat more than a silicon carbide equivalent. Against that, it lasts considerably longer in the same application, it is far less likely to break during installation, and it is less likely to fail at an inconvenient moment.
