The Osborn OSB99043 is a knot wire cup brush, 6 inch outside diameter, .020 inch steel wire, 5/8-11 NC arbor hole, clamshell packaged.

At 6 inches this is the large cup in the range and the size carries a consequence that is worth stating plainly: rim speed rises with diameter, which means a larger brush must be turned slower.

That is not a preference. Every brush has a rim speed above which it comes apart, and doubling the diameter doubles the rim speed at the same RPM. A 6 inch cup on a grinder built for 4-1/2 inch wheels is being run well past what it was rated for, and knot brushes fail by throwing wire and shedding knots. Verify the brush's rated speed against the grinder's no-load speed before mounting — every time, not once.

What the size buys is coverage. A 6 inch cup strips a panel in a fraction of the passes a 4 inch takes, which on large surface preparation is the difference between an hour and an afternoon. It also needs a grinder with the power and the size to swing it.

Knot construction at .020 inch is the heavy configuration: rigid bundles that strike rather than sweep, removing mill scale, heavy rust, and slag.

Steel wire means carbon steel only.

Wear a full face shield. A 6 inch knot cup throws wire hard.
