The DeWalt DEWDW49252 is an XP stainless stringer wire wheel, 6-1/2 inch diameter with a 5/8"-11 arbor and .020 inch wire.

The stainless wire is the specification that matters and the reason to choose this wheel over a carbon steel equivalent. Brushing stainless steel with a carbon steel brush embeds carbon particles into the stainless surface. Those particles rust, and the rust breaks down the passive chromium oxide layer that makes stainless corrosion resistant in the first place — producing rust spots on a stainless fabrication that was clean when it left the shop. The failure appears weeks later and is blamed on the material rather than the brush.

The rule that follows is simple and absolute: stainless work gets a dedicated stainless brush, and that brush never touches carbon steel. Cross-contamination defeats the entire purpose.

The stringer bead geometry concentrates the knots into a narrow band roughly the width of a weld bead, putting the wheel's full energy into the root and toes of a joint rather than riding across the parent metal.

At 6-1/2 inches with .020 inch wire, this is a production weld cleanup specification.

The 5/8"-11 arbor fits standard right angle grinders.
