Osborn OSB30112 1" Knot End Brush

The Osborn OSB30112 is a 1 inch knot end brush, 1 inch outside diameter with a 7/8 inch brush part and .014 inch wire.

An end brush is the third member of the wire brush family and it does what neither a wheel nor a cup can.

A wheel works on its edge. A cup works on a face. An end brush works at its tip — the wires point forward from the end of a small stem, so the brush cleans straight ahead of itself. That is the geometry required to get inside a hole, a bore, a counterbore, a slot, a keyway, or a casting recess. A cup brush simply cannot enter any of them, and a wheel touches only the wall.

At 1 inch outside diameter this is small, and small is what the application demands. End brushes are mounted in die grinders and drills rather than angle grinders, and they reach where nothing else does.

The .014 inch wire is a medium gauge — reading across this range, .008 is the fine cleaning wire, .014 is the middle, and .020 is the heavy stripping gauge. Gauge is the aggression scale, and it should follow the work rather than the assumption that heavier is better.

Knot construction means the wire is twisted into rigid bundles that strike rather than sweep.
