Description
The Nidec/Emerson 3737 is a 1/3 horsepower, 1075 RPM, 460 volt condenser fan motor for outdoor fan applications in commercial air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.
A 460 volt rating places this motor in commercial and industrial service, where the building distribution is 480 volt three-phase and fan motors are fed at the corresponding line voltage. It cannot be operated on 208, 230, or 277 volt supplies.
Because frame dimensions, shaft, and mounting may be identical across voltage variants of the same motor family, voltage is the specification most easily overlooked and the most expensive to get wrong. A 230 volt motor connected to a 460 volt supply fails within seconds.
Work on 460 volt equipment also carries a higher hazard than residential service. Isolation at the correct disconnect, lockout, and verification of the absence of voltage at the motor terminals are essential rather than advisable, and arc flash considerations apply to work in the associated panels.
The motor requires a permanently connected run capacitor of the specified value where fitted.
