Nidec/Emerson Condenser Motor 1/2 HP 1075 RPM 460V

The Nidec/Emerson 3738 is a 1/2 horsepower, 1075 RPM, 460 volt condenser fan motor for outdoor fan duty in commercial air conditioning equipment.

Higher supply voltage means lower current for the same output, and that is the practical reason commercial buildings distribute fan loads at 460 volts. A half horsepower motor at 460 volts draws roughly a quarter of the current it would at 115 volts, which allows smaller conductors, longer runs to rooftop equipment, and more loads on a given feeder.

That efficiency in distribution is why large commercial installations with numerous rooftop units and exhaust fans standardise on the higher voltage.

The corresponding requirement is discipline about voltage identification. A commercial mechanical room or rooftop may have equipment at 460, 277, 208, and 120 volts within a few feet of each other, and every motor replacement should begin by reading the nameplate of the motor being removed rather than assuming the building standard applies to that particular unit.

Confirm horsepower, RPM, voltage, rotation, frame diameter, shaft diameter and length, mounting arrangement, and run capacitor requirement before ordering, and verify running current against nameplate on completion.
