The Nidec/Emerson 3405 is a 1/6 horsepower, 1500 RPM condenser fan motor for outdoor fan applications where higher shaft speed is required.

A 1500 RPM rating indicates a four-pole motor operating on a 50 hertz supply, or a motor wound for a higher speed class than the 1075 RPM norm of North American condenser fan applications. Higher shaft speed is paired with a smaller fan blade, following the same principle that governs the 825 RPM designs at the other end of the range: blade diameter and rotational speed together determine airflow, and manufacturers trade one against the other according to the space and sound constraints of the equipment.

Because of that pairing, speed must be matched to the original when selecting a replacement. A motor of the correct horsepower but a different speed class will not deliver the airflow the condenser coil requires, and the fault presents as elevated head pressure and reduced capacity rather than as an obvious motor problem.

Verify the nameplate speed of the motor being replaced rather than assuming a standard value.

The motor requires a permanently connected run capacitor of the specified value.
