Nidec/Emerson Condenser Fan Motor 1/3 HP 825 RPM 230V 2-Speed

The Nidec/Emerson 5464 is a 1/3 horsepower, 825 RPM, 230 volt two-speed condenser fan motor for outdoor fan applications in condensing units using large-diameter, low-speed blades.

Combining two-speed operation with a six-pole design gives the equipment manufacturer two useful operating points at low tip speed. High speed handles full-load heat rejection on a hot day; low speed serves reduced-capacity operation and low-ambient conditions, and the already modest tip speed means the unit becomes very quiet at the lower setting.

The speed change is commanded by the equipment controls, typically through a relay, a head pressure control, or an outdoor thermostat. When replacing the motor, record the existing connections and reproduce them. Leaving the low-speed lead disconnected produces a motor that runs correctly in summer and misbehaves in cool weather, which is a difficult fault to relate back to the repair months later.

The motor requires a permanently connected run capacitor of the specified value, and capacitance requirements can differ between speed configurations.
