Description
The Nidec/Emerson EL3729 is a 1/3 horsepower, 1075 RPM, 208-230 volt condenser fan motor supplied for outdoor fan replacement in air conditioning and heat pump condensing units.
Rotation is stated as viewed from the shaft end and must match both the original motor and the fan blade. Condenser fan blades are handed, and the combination determines whether air is discharged upward through the top grille as intended or drawn downward through it.
A reversed installation is not subtle in its effects but is surprisingly easy to miss on a first inspection. The unit runs, the fan turns, and air moves. What changes is that air is pulled in through the top and pushed out through the coil, which means the coil is fed with air that has already passed over it, condensing temperature rises sharply, head pressure climbs, and capacity falls. Checking discharge direction by hand at the top grille takes seconds and settles the question.
The motor requires a permanently connected run capacitor of the specified value.
