Nidec/Emerson Condenser Fan Motor 1/2 HP 1075 RPM

The Nidec/Emerson 3738H is a 1/2 horsepower, 1075 RPM condenser fan motor for outdoor fan applications in larger residential and light commercial condensing units.

Most condenser fan motors incorporate an internal thermal overload that opens the circuit when winding temperature rises beyond a safe limit and resets automatically as the motor cools. The protection is valuable, but the symptom it produces is easily misread: a unit that cools normally for a period, then loses the outdoor fan, then recovers after a rest, is often reported as an intermittent electrical fault.

The correct interpretation is that the motor is overheating, and the reason needs finding. Common causes are a degraded run capacitor, a fan blade of the wrong diameter or pitch, bearings beginning to seize, restricted airflow through a fouled coil, or ambient conditions beyond what the motor can shed heat into.

A motor cycling on thermal overload is near the end of its life, and replacing it without addressing the underlying cause will reproduce the fault.

Confirm horsepower, RPM, voltage, rotation, frame diameter, shaft diameter and length, mounting arrangement, and run capacitor rating before ordering. Measure running current against nameplate after installation.
