The JAZ JAZ72082B is a 2-3/4 inch twist knot wire cup brush with .020 inch stainless steel wire and a 5/8"-11 arbor hole, supplied in a bulk package.

Stainless wire in a small cup brush addresses a specific and common job: cleaning stainless welds in tight positions — inside corners, fittings, small-bore pipe joints, and the confined areas that stainless fabrication is full of.

The stainless wire is a contamination requirement rather than a durability feature, and this is worth being blunt about. A carbon steel brush used on stainless embeds carbon particles in the surface. Those particles rust, and their rust attacks the passive chromium oxide layer that makes stainless corrosion resistant. Rust spots appear on the finished fabrication weeks later, and the customer blames the material.

The corollary matters as much: a stainless brush that has touched carbon steel is contaminated and is now a carbon brush. Shops doing both keep the brushes physically separated and clearly marked, because there is no way to tell them apart by eye once they are in a drawer together.

Twist knot construction gives the rigidity to remove rather than polish. The .020 inch wire is the general heavy-duty gauge.
