The relationship between diameter and maximum RPM is the specification worth understanding here, because it is a safety matter rather than a performance note. Rim speed rises with diameter, so a larger wheel must be turned slower to keep its edge below the speed at which it flies apart. This 6 inch wheel is rated at 12,500 RPM; a 4-1/2 inch wheel in the same range is rated 15,000; a 7 inch is rated 9,000. Those are not arbitrary numbers.

The consequence is direct: the wheel's rated speed must meet or exceed the grinder's no-load speed. A 6 inch wheel on a small grinder spinning at 15,000 RPM is being run past its rating, and knot brushes fail by throwing wire and losing knots.
