Flange Wizard FLWMSG230 Torch Guide Magnetic Off/On Blocks

The Flange Wizard FLWMSG230 is a magnetic torch guide using OFF/ON blocks.

A torch guide is the answer to the fundamental limitation of hand cutting: a torch held in a hand travels the path the hand describes, and that path wanders. The cut edge comes out ragged and has to be ground before it can be welded — which takes longer than cutting it properly would have.

The guide gives the torch something to run against, so the cut follows a defined line rather than an approximate one.

The OFF/ON magnetic blocks are what fix the guide to the work, and the switchable field is the feature worth paying for. A permanent magnet strong enough to resist an operator leaning into a cut is a magnet that then has to be wrestled off the plate. A switchable block clamps hard when it is on and lifts away freely when it is off, without disturbing anything.

The advantage of magnetic clamping over a conventional clamp is reach. A C-clamp needs an edge to hook around, and the middle of a 10 foot plate has no edge within reach. A magnetic block holds anywhere on the surface.
