Flange Wizard FLW8905 Pipe Magician Magnetic

The Flange Wizard FLW8905 is the magnetic Pipe Magician tool case, a kit assembling the essential tools for pipe layout work, including an aligner and a centering head.

The Pipe Magician name has been in use since 1981, registered as a levelling and alignment instrument for pipes, tanks, and structural beams — which is an accurate description of what the case is for. Pipe work presents a particular set of problems that flat-plate fabrication does not: there is no edge to reference, no flat to sit a square on, and every fitting attaches at a defined angular position around a circumference that the fitter has to establish before anything can be marked.

The case addresses that set of problems as a system rather than a collection. A flange aligner handles the two-holing requirement — orienting a flange so its bolt holes straddle the vertical centreline, which is what allows the finished joint to mate. A centering head establishes the centre-line and any angle around the pipe's circumference, which is the reference every branch, saddle, and support depends on.

Buying the case rather than the pieces is a decision about completeness. A fitter missing one tool improvises, and improvised pipe layout is what produces flanges that have to be cut back off.

Applications include pipe fitting, process piping, refineries, shipyards, plumbing, and mechanical construction.
