The Flange Wizard FLW72800 is a radius marker in the Small size, for drawing circles up to 22 inches.

A radius marker is a compass built for steel, and the reason it exists rather than a workshop compass is that steel plate offers nothing to put a compass point into. Punching a centre mark to give the point purchase damages the plate and takes time, and on a finished surface it is not acceptable at all.

The radius marker solves the centre problem and then scribes the arc. What it buys the fabricator is accuracy at a scale where accuracy is otherwise very hard: marking a 20 inch circle by measuring offsets from a centre point produces a polygon, not a circle, and the errors accumulate around the perimeter.

The 22 inch capacity is the specification that separates this from the medium and large markers in the range, and the sizes are a genuine choice rather than a hierarchy. A small marker is lighter, handier, and easier to control on the bench; the large ones are unwieldy for small work. Pick on the job, not on maximum capacity.
