FAMCO Wall Painted Bath And KI BK4XBK

The FAMCO BK4XBK is a 4 inch bath and kitchen exhaust vent in black, providing an exterior termination for residential ventilation ductwork.

Terminations intended for bath and kitchen exhaust address a specific requirement: the air being discharged is warm and moisture laden, and in kitchen applications may carry cooking residues. A termination that allows that air to be drawn back toward the building, or that permits condensate to collect and run back down the duct, produces recurring problems.

The moisture question is the more consequential in cold climates. Warm humid air discharged through a cold termination condenses on the metal, and where the termination is not arranged to drain outward, that condensate runs back into the duct. Over a heating season this can amount to a substantial quantity of water, which appears as staining at the fan housing or the ceiling below and is frequently misdiagnosed as a roof leak.

Terminations should therefore pitch outward, and the duct approaching them should be insulated where it passes through unconditioned space so that condensation forms as little as possible.

The black finish suits dark roofing, trim, and siding.

Applications include residential bathroom and kitchen exhaust terminations. Verify the damper operates freely and that no screen is fitted where lint or grease is expected.
