The FAMCO BK6XBK is a 6 inch roof vent in black, providing a roof mounted termination for exhaust ductwork.

Roof terminations are chosen where a sidewall route is impractical, most often when the fan sits in the middle of a building or when the nearest exterior wall is a long duct run away. A shorter, more direct route to a roof termination frequently delivers better airflow than a longer run to a wall, since duct length and fittings are the dominant resistance in most exhaust systems.

The trade-off is the penetration itself. A roof penetration is a permanent opening in the primary weather surface of the building, and it will leak eventually if the flashing detail is not correct. The base flashing must be integrated beneath the roofing material on the upslope side and over it on the downslope side, so that water running down the roof passes across the flashing. Sealant is a supplement to that detail, never a substitute for it.

Snow accumulation is the other consideration in cold climates. A termination buried in snow cannot discharge, and the resulting backpressure stops the ventilation entirely.

The black finish suits dark roofing.
