The Builder's Best 111237 is an 8 inch heavy gauge galvanised wall vent for exterior termination of exhaust ductwork.

At 8 inches this termination serves substantial ventilation duties: larger bathroom and laundry exhaust, kitchen ventilation, workshop and garage exhaust, and light commercial applications.

Larger terminations require more attention to their attachment and weathersealing than small ones. A vent of this size presents a considerable area to wind pressure, and an inadequately fastened unit will work loose over time. More importantly, the flange must be integrated correctly with the wall's water resistive barrier and cladding so that water running down the wall passes over the flange rather than behind it. Relying on a bead of sealant around the perimeter as the primary defence produces a penetration that leaks once the sealant ages, and the resulting damage is concealed within the wall assembly until it becomes substantial.

The correct detail places the upper flange behind the cladding and water resistive barrier, with the lower flange over it.

Galvanised heavy gauge construction resists the UV embrittlement, impact damage, and corrosion that eventually defeat lighter terminations.

Applications include residential and light commercial exterior wall exhaust terminations for bathroom, kitchen, laundry, workshop, and general ventilation.
