The FAMCO UEV6WH is a 6 inch under eave soffit vent in white, providing a termination for exhaust ductwork through a soffit.

Soffit terminations are convenient because the soffit is often the nearest exterior surface to a ceiling mounted fan, giving a short direct duct run. They carry an important caveat that is frequently ignored.

The soffit generally contains attic intake ventilation. Discharging warm, moisture laden exhaust air beneath a soffit vent means that air is drawn straight into the attic by the natural ventilation flow, where the moisture condenses on the cold roof deck. In cold climates the result is frost on the sheathing, staining, and eventually decay of the roof structure. This is a well documented failure mode and one of the most common causes of unexplained attic moisture.

A purpose made soffit termination directs discharge downward and away, and the installation must keep the termination clear of soffit intake vents. Where the soffit is continuously vented, a soffit termination is generally the wrong choice and a wall or roof termination should be used instead.

The white finish matches typical soffit material.
