The Builder's Best 111229 is a 4 inch heavy gauge galvanised wall vent, providing a durable exterior termination for exhaust ductwork.

Heavy gauge galvanised construction is specified where a plastic or light metal termination will not survive. Exterior terminations are exposed to ultraviolet light, thermal cycling, wind driven rain, impact from equipment and landscaping, and in some locations to birds and rodents attempting entry. Plastic louvers embrittle under sustained UV exposure and eventually crack, typically after several years, at which point the termination no longer sheds water or excludes pests.

Galvanised steel resists all of these. The zinc coating provides corrosion protection, and the heavier gauge withstands impact without deforming.

The 4 inch size is the standard for clothes dryer exhaust and for smaller bathroom fans. On dryer applications specifically, the termination must be free of any screen or mesh, since lint accumulates on it rapidly and restricts the duct. A dryer venting through a screened termination is both an efficiency problem and a recognised fire risk.

The integral damper should be checked for free movement periodically, as lint build-up on the hinge is the usual cause of a damper that no longer closes.

Applications include residential and light commercial dryer exhaust, bathroom ventilation, and general exterior wall terminations.
