DiversiTech Anti-Vibration Pad ISO-18

The DiversiTech ISO-18 is an anti-vibration pad measuring 18 by 18 inches by 3/4 inch thick, placed beneath equipment to isolate structure borne vibration.

Rotating equipment generates vibration, and where that equipment is mounted rigidly to a structure, the vibration transmits into the building and is re-radiated as noise. The mechanism is why a compressor or a fan that is barely audible standing beside it can be clearly heard in a room on the other side of a wall or floor. Isolating the equipment from the structure interrupts the path.

An isolation pad works by introducing a resilient layer whose stiffness is low relative to the mass it supports, so that vibration is attenuated rather than transmitted. Effectiveness depends on the pad being correctly loaded: too little weight and the pad does not deflect enough to isolate, too much and it compresses solid and transmits as rigidly as a hard mount. Manufacturers publish load ranges for this reason, and selecting on size alone is a common error.

Isolation pads are also frequently defeated after installation, by rigid conduit, piping, or duct connections that bridge the isolation and carry vibration into the structure directly. Flexible connections at every service are what preserve the benefit.

Applications include condensing units, air handlers, pumps, compressors, and rooftop and mechanical room equipment in residential, commercial, and industrial installations.
