Product Highlights
Description
The Yellow Jacket 49105 is a high side replacement gauge calibrated for R-22, supplied for repair and refurbishment of manifold gauge sets.
Replacing an individual gauge rather than a complete manifold is often the economical repair. A manifold body with sound valves and fittings has considerable service life remaining even when a gauge has been damaged, and gauges are the component most exposed to impact.
The high side gauge reads condensing pressure and carries a higher pressure scale than the compound low side gauge, which reads both pressure and vacuum. The two are not interchangeable.
Refrigerant specific scales are the reason gauges are sold calibrated for particular refrigerants. The face carries saturation temperature scales alongside the pressure scale, allowing the technician to read the corresponding temperature directly rather than consulting a chart. Those temperature scales are specific to the refrigerant, so a gauge marked for R-22 gives correct pressure readings on any system but correct temperature readings only on R-22.
Using the temperature scale of the wrong refrigerant produces superheat and subcooling figures that are wrong, and the resulting charging errors look plausible.
Accuracy should be verified after any gauge replacement. A gauge should read zero at atmospheric pressure, and where it does not, most gauges provide an adjustment.
Confirm gauge diameter, connection size, pressure range, and refrigerant scale against the manifold before ordering.
