DiversiTech Refrigerant Refrigeration Label R407C 1

The DiversiTech 4407 is an R-407C refrigerant identification label for marking equipment and cylinders.

R-407C is a zeotropic blend, and blends require identification more urgently than single component refrigerants because of how they behave during charging.

A zeotropic blend contains components with different boiling points. When such a blend is drawn as vapour from a cylinder, the more volatile components leave first, and both the vapour removed and the liquid remaining change in composition. The result is that vapour charging from a blend cylinder puts the wrong mixture into the system and leaves the wrong mixture in the cylinder.

Blends must therefore be charged as liquid, so that all components transfer in their correct proportions. Where the system requires vapour at the charging point, the liquid is metered through a restrictor and flashed rather than drawn as vapour from the cylinder.

The second consequence of blend behaviour is temperature glide. The refrigerant evaporates and condenses across a range of temperatures rather than at a single point, which means saturation temperature must be read against the correct dew or bubble point column for the calculation being performed. Using the wrong column produces superheat and subcooling figures that are simply incorrect.

A technician who does not know the system contains a blend will make both errors.

Apply labels where they will be seen at service, and record refrigerant and lubricant type accurately.
