Aspen A2L Rds Kit Universal A2LZS

The Aspen A2LZS is a universal A2L refrigerant detection system kit, supplied for installations using mildly flammable refrigerants.

A2L refrigerants such as R-32 and R-454B are classified as mildly flammable, and safety standards governing their use require mitigation measures where a leak could produce a flammable concentration in an occupied space. A refrigerant detection system is the principal measure.

The system monitors the space for refrigerant concentration and, on detection, initiates a defined response. That response typically involves shutting down the refrigerant circuit to stop further release and energising ventilation, most often the indoor blower, to disperse the accumulation and keep concentrations below the flammability limit.

The requirement arises from how A2L refrigerants behave in a leak. They are heavier than air and settle in low areas, so a leak into a confined space can produce a locally flammable concentration even when the total charge is modest relative to the room volume.

Sensor placement follows from this, with mounting position specified relative to the equipment and the floor rather than chosen for convenience.

A universal kit is designed to interface with a range of equipment, which is useful in retrofit situations and where the original manufacturer's system is unavailable.

Confirm compatibility with the equipment, the refrigerant, and the governing standard for the installation. Follow the manufacturer's placement, wiring, and commissioning instructions, and test the system at commissioning and periodically thereafter.
