DiversiTech Refrigerant Refrigeration Label R22

The DiversiTech 4022 is an R-22 refrigerant identification label used to mark equipment and cylinders with the refrigerant they contain.

Refrigerant labelling is a small task with consequences well out of proportion to the effort involved. A technician arriving at unfamiliar equipment needs to know what refrigerant is in it before connecting anything, and the original data plate is frequently illegible after years of weather, painted over, or missing entirely.

The risk of getting it wrong is real. Different refrigerants operate at very different pressures, and connecting equipment rated for a lower pressure system to a higher pressure one is hazardous. Charging the wrong refrigerant into a system produces immediate performance problems and contaminates the charge, and mixing refrigerants means the resulting mixture cannot be reclaimed economically.

The situation this addresses most directly is retrofit. Equipment originally supplied with one refrigerant and later converted to another carries a data plate that is now wrong, and a label recording the actual refrigerant and lubricant is the only thing standing between the next technician and a mistake.

Labelling should record the refrigerant, the lubricant type, and the date of any conversion.

Apply labels to a clean surface where they will be seen when the equipment is opened for service, and confirm the label reflects what is actually in the system rather than what was originally specified.
