The Shurtape 200666 SF685 is a three inch by 100 foot roll of duct sealant mastic tape.

Storage and shelf life affect mastic tape more than most site materials, and product that has been stored badly performs poorly.

Temperature is the main factor. Mastic stiffens in cold and becomes difficult to unroll and to bed properly against the duct. Applied cold and stiff, it does not conform to the surface and leaves voids beneath, which are leak paths invisible from outside.

Warming the roll before use in cold conditions makes a substantial difference, and keeping stock in a heated part of the vehicle rather than an open bed is worth doing in winter.

Excessive heat causes the opposite problem, with the mastic softening and the roll becoming difficult to handle or bleeding at the edges.

Rolls should be stored on end or flat rather than with weight on them, since a roll compressed under other materials deforms and does not unwind cleanly.

Shelf life is stated by the manufacturer, and old stock may have lost tack.

Application to a clean, dry surface with firm pressure across the full width remains the requirement regardless of storage.
