The Polymer Adhesives A80-002 Airseal #33 is a one gallon container of grey duct sealant.

Duct sealants are formulated for the pressure class of the system they will seal, and pressure class is a specification worth checking.

Low pressure residential systems operate at modest static pressures, and the demands on a joint are correspondingly light. Commercial systems, particularly medium and high pressure distribution, operate at pressures several times higher, and the force trying to open a joint and drive air through a seal scales with it.

A sealant adequate for a residential supply plenum may not hold at the pressures found in a commercial main.

Manufacturers state the pressure class each product is suitable for, along with whether it is rated for positive pressure, negative pressure, or both. Negative pressure applications, meaning return and exhaust ductwork, place a different demand on the seal since the pressure differential acts to pull the sealant into the joint rather than push it out.

The pairing of mechanical fastening and sealing matters more as pressure rises. At higher pressures a joint that is not adequately fastened will move, and no sealant survives a joint that opens and closes.

Confirm the pressure class, listing, temperature range, and material compatibility against the system. Apply to clean, dry surfaces at the specified thickness after fastening.
