DiversiTech Sealant Refrigeration 985

The DiversiTech 985 is a refrigeration sealant used for sealing joints and connections in refrigeration applications.

Sealants used around refrigeration equipment have to tolerate conditions that general purpose products do not.

Temperature range is the first requirement. Surfaces near a suction line run well below ambient, while discharge lines and compressor bodies run hot. A sealant that is flexible at room temperature may become brittle at low temperature and crack, or soften and flow at high temperature.

Thermal cycling compounds this. Refrigeration equipment cycles continuously, and every cycle moves the joint slightly. A rigid sealant fails at the bond line under that repeated movement, so flexibility retained across the full temperature range is what determines service life.

Moisture exposure is the second requirement. Cold surfaces condense water whenever the surrounding air is above their dew point, so sealants in these locations are frequently wet and must not degrade or lose adhesion.

Material compatibility is the third, since a sealant in contact with insulation, copper, aluminium, and painted steel must not attack any of them.

Surface preparation determines the outcome as much as the product. Clean, dry, and free of oil is the requirement, and cold or damp surfaces may prevent proper adhesion.
