The Hardcast 325804 is a three inch by 100 foot roll of mastic sealing tape for duct joints and seams.

Width selection on sealing tape follows the joint it must cover, with enough overlap onto sound metal each side to form a reliable bond.

A tape that only just spans the joint has minimal bonding area, and any misalignment during application leaves part of the joint uncovered. Three inch tape gives useful margin on typical duct seams and covers the wider connections at plenums and takeoffs.

Roll length affects how the work proceeds. A long roll reduces the number of joins along a seam, and every join in the tape is a potential leak path if the overlap is inadequate.

Application requires firm pressure across the full width to bed the mastic against the metal. Tape laid on without pressure bridges over surface irregularities and leaves voids beneath, which are leak paths that will not be visible from outside.

Corners and transitions need particular care, since the tape must be worked into the profile rather than stretched across it. Stretched tape pulls back as it relaxes and lifts at the edges.

Surfaces must be clean and dry, and mill oil on new sheet metal must be removed.
