Milwaukee MIL8988-20 Heat Gun Variable Temperature with Lcd Display 120V AC

The Milwaukee MIL8988-20 is a variable temperature heat gun with LCD display, 120V AC, 12.5 amps, air temperatures 110 to 1,150°F.

The temperature range and the display are the specification, and together they turn a heat gun from a blunt instrument into a controlled one.

The reason that matters is that most heat gun jobs have a narrow correct window and an expensive failure either side of it. Heat shrink tubing needs enough to shrink and not enough to split. Paint stripping needs enough to soften and not enough to scorch the wood — or, on older buildings, not enough to vaporise lead paint, which is a genuine exposure hazard rather than a footnote. Plastic welding and forming need a temperature specific to the polymer. Thawing pipes needs enough to melt ice and not enough to ignite the structure around them.

Guessing at those is how heat guns cause damage and fires. An LCD showing the actual set temperature removes the guessing.

The 110°F low end is worth noting: that is barely warm, and it is there for delicate work and for cooling a hot element down before shutdown.

The obvious caution bears stating: 1,150°F is well above the ignition point of most things in a building. Heat guns start fires, and the nozzle stays lethal long after the tool is switched off.

Applications include heat shrink, paint stripping, plastics, and thawing.
